Being uninhibited, inquisitive, adventurous and curious, kids are natural inventors.
The creativity and inventiveness of children may have found a positive resource
for harnessing it's potential … and getting the recognition it deserves. Through the efforts
of entrepreneurial adults and farsighted industries and educators, Kid inventors can now
enjoy commercial opportunities beyond their successes in science fairs and other competitions.

Once we do, we will be better able to leverage the aspects of technology that can enhance learning experiences for our students.

In this episode, 3 popular learning theories will be briefly examined (constructivism, social cognition, brain-based learning)
and implications for technology use will be discussed.

As the fourth in a series of symposia focusing on the relationship among learning,
creativity and brain function, in 1997, the Foundation for Human Potential,
in conjunction with The School of the Art Institute of Chicago, presented a
symposium entitled, Emotional Intelligence, Education and the Brain.

Emotional intelligence, as defined by the New York Times science journalist
and psychologist, Daniel Goleman, in his best-selling book of the same name,
includes self-control, zeal, persistence, the ability to motivate one's self and get along
with others, all of which can be taught to most children. The purpose of the
one-day program was to facilitate learning in a public forum among educators,
scientists, artists, health and allied health professionals, cultural anthropologists,
students and the educated public. Among the issues explored were: the role of the brain
and environmental influences on behavior in the acquisition or lack thereof, of emotional
intelligence. The panel discussions highlighted the interdisciplinary communication
necessary when considering the many aspects of emotional intelligence.
The esteemed presenters included: Drs. Kay Redfield Jamison, Joesph LeDoux,
Antonio Damasio, Howard Gardner, Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi, and dancer/arts
educator Jacques d'Amboise.
